Visitors in the field of ophthalmology or related fields are welcome to visit us for a 1 week visit.

If a visitor wishes to visit us for 2 weeks or longer then the following fees are required at time of application submission:

• $350 for two weeks
• $700 for three weeks
• $1,050 for the first month
• $500 per additional month

Please note: Applicants whose visit is NOT approved by us will have their fee refunded in full. Should the applicant decide not to visit, the fee will be refunded less $500.

Visitor Application Requirements:

• Ophthalmologist or ophthalmologists in resident/fellowship training (MDs only).
• Must speak English.
• Be in good standing at current school/institution.
• Paid their visitor fee (if visiting for one month or more), excluding all costs (travel, food, lodging, insurance, visa, etc.) which are the responsibility of the applicant.  Payment must be received one month prior to your visit.
• All application materials must be sent electronically and must be submitted at least four months prior to desired start date. All documents must be official copies in English.
• An immunization form must be completed.

The Ocular Oncology Service offers a 1-year research fellowship and a 2-year clinical and research fellowship for training in ocular oncology. The Oncology Service has 4 offices and fellows are expected to cover all offices as scheduled by the Oncology Service Administration. Candidates should be well-trained ophthalmologists, in preparation for the fellowship. Candidates can be from the United States or other countries throughout the world.

Over 100 fellows have been trained worldwide by the team in the Oncology Service. These fellows have become leaders in their countries and hail from England, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Scotland, Belgium, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, Iran, India, China, Japan, Australia, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, and other countries.

Clinical Fellowship: Fellowship is for 2 years

Prerequisites for the clinical fellowship include:

• At least 3 years of residency in ophthalmology

• If American:
• PA medical license
• DEA

• If from another country:
• USMLE 1,2, and 3
• ECFMG certificate
• H-Visa

Year 1 of clinical fellowship training (PGY-5 level Oncology Clinical fellow) is responsible for:

• Clinical care of ocular oncology patients. This includes the diagnosis and treatment for patients with conjunctival, intraocular, ocular, adnexal, and orbital tumors.
• Assisting in in-office procedures such as intravitreal injections, minor eyelid procedures, and cryotherapy.
• Assisting in operating room procedures with staff.
• Clinical research projects for publications in major ophthalmology journals.
• Participation in medical meetings.

Year 2 of clinical fellowship training (PGY-6 level Oncology Clinical fellow) is responsible for:

• Similar clinical and operating duties as PGY-5 but will have a more direct hands-on experience.
• Clinical research projects for publication.

Research Fellowship: Fellowship is for 1 or 2 years.

Prerequisites for the research fellowship include:

• At least 3 years of residency in ophthalmology

• If American:
• Completed residency
• Interest in ocular oncology

• If from another country:
• Completed residency in country
• J1 Visa
• Interest in ocular oncology

Duties of research fellow include:

• Conducting clinical research projects with compilation of data in relatively independent fashion.
• Publication of research.
• Assistance with related ocular oncology education.
• Presentation of research at meetings.
